We were looking for somewhere to come on holiday near to where my family lived in Port Ellen so that we had our own space. Kenny’s place was absolutely perfect and so close by too! We were very comfortable and extremely happy with the lovely wee garden. Perfect spot for visiting the beaches, touring some distilleries and seal spotting! Kenny offers the perfect little spot and I won’t hesitate to book again if I’m coming back with friends! Thanks Kenny 🙂

We normally don't write reviews, but Kenny's place definitely deserves a quick word of praise: spacious, clean, comfortable, and simply but thoughtfully equipped for self-catering - everything as straightforward as the friendly communication with the host. Perfectly located right in the middle of Port Ellen for Islay's best mini-pub crawl (No. 1 Ardview, rinse & repeat), and of course, within walking (or staggering) distance of Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg. We spent a wonderful first week of March there. Oh, and cheers to Caro & Peter!

We spent a great week at A'Chroit as a group of friends visiting the distilleries. The house was perfectly located and provided all the facilities that we needed. The garden patio was perfect for sitting out to enjoy the evening sun

Thanks for your great feedback Nigel. The sun was out for you indeed at the end of April. Glad you were able to sit out the back and get some evening rays. Slainthe 🥃

We visited Islay in April and stayed in A'Chroit for a week. The house is very comfortable in a quiet street Large kitchen too. Long walks, lovely meals, great whisky's. Made the three-distillery walk, went to Colonsay and Jura. The week was too short. Had a great week and the weather was nice. One day a bit of rain. Until next time.

Glad to hear you had a great time. Yeah, there’s lots of outdoor activities to do. You’ll just have to come back to see the rest of the island. Many thanks.

A’Chroit was the perfect affordable home for our multi-generational family holiday. It is well equipped for self catering and easy to keep clean, even with a two year old. Very comfortable, especially the beds and bedding and a good quiet space outside for sitting out. Islay is beautiful and the Islay community is particularly welcoming giving a really relaxed, contented feel to the area; we felt totally at home. Kenny is very helpful and quick to respond to any queries. Highly recommended.

Stayed here for the second time for a fortnight in September 2024 when we had wall to wall sunshine for the whole time when the rest of the UK was having violents storms. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. We have just booked for a third time to bring our grandchildren to Islay. The house is ideally placed in Port Ellen. It is spacious, immaculately clean and has everything needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Communication with Kenny is easy and speedy. You will not find a better place to stay on Islay at this price.

Thanks for your returning visit, and we’re so glad you’re pleased with the house. Some improvements are afoot so maybe by the next time you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Best wishes to one and all.

Excellent location and very well equipped, we really enjoyed our week on Islay. Weather was fine and got to see most of the island with a hire car. It was a relief to find decent accomodation here after some horrible hotels at Tarbert and Edinburgh. Thank you Kenny for your help and efficiency, hope to be back soon...

We have stayed at the lovely house twice now and each time its an amazing experience, the house has everything you could possible need and more to make your stay comfortable. Very central to get around the Island of Islay either by car or bus, the bus stop is a stones throw away from the house. Its immaculate which lovely fresh linen in all the bedrooms and bathroom. We enjoyed our two previous stays and have requested to book again for next year. Totally recommend this wee gem truly a great experience from booking to leaving Islay.

Kenny has been amazing at helping with accommodation for our employees whilst they have been working at Port Ellen Distillery. They have all been very happy at the cottage, believe me, they would let me know if they weren't! 🙂 Thank you very much Kenny!

Have completely fallen in love with Islay and staying in this house could not have been more perfect. perfectly positioned with armlengths to everything needed for a group whose age ranged from just under two to sixty five. It was easy staying in the house and doing all (almost all) our cooking which included a traditional Swedish langoustine party. The langoustines ordered from the Sea Shack and none of us have ever tasted better. The garden was perfect and all the rooms had a good size. We came from 3 countries and Islay showed Scotland at its best, no rain in 6 days!! Played rounders on the beach and Portnahaven and the seals is a must. So much more on this island than distilleries. The professional photographer (daughter in law) worked 24/7.

We are just back from staying at An Chroit. It was our first time staying here and was absolutely perfect, the house has everything you could need and the garden is a great bonus. The location is great for distillery path and Islay sea adventures that we would highly recommend and is right on your doorstep. I would definitely stay there again 😀

Large house in central location in Port Ellen. The house has more than enough space, is very well equipped and is very centrally located. The house also has a small nice garden. It is in the center of Port Ellen, walking distance to the bus stop, supermarkets, the beach, pubs/restaurants and some distilleries. The house is highly recommended.

It is the sixth time we reserve this house. We really love it because it's comfortable, there is everything you need inside, a very nice kitchen, a nice living room, and three bedrooms, a well working heating and a very functional bath room. It is a perfect location to visit the island, to have nice walks around Port Ellen or to the three nearest distilleries. I strongly recommend this place, and hope I'll go back there very soon.

We were 4 men from Sweden who stayed at A'Chroit for a week in April. We really liked the place which had a great kitchen, good living room and the bedrooms were good as well. We couldn't have asked for anything else and it was also a walking distance to three distilleries. When we had any questions Kenny was very quick to answer them. We hope that we can stay there again.

This was our first visit to Islay. A'Chroit is a cosy cottage close to the ferry and a grocery store. A good base for exploring the area. The property is well equipped though no dishwasher. Not a problem though. Distilleries within 1 hour drive or 10 mins drive. A lovely drive up past Ardbeg to bays where you can be alone. Half an hour to Port Askaig and 1 hour to Portnahaven. Amazing natural wildlife. Petrol station 2 minutes from the house. You will enjoy staying at this lovely house.

This was our 4th time staying in A'Chroit for the Feis Ile (2016, 2017 & 2019) and the first since the pandemic. It was nice to be back and staying in such a welcoming and familiar place. Except for a very wet and midge infested Laphroaig day morning the weather was fantastic throughout the week. The location of A'Chroit couldn't be better for accessing the 3 (soon to be 5!) South Islay Whisky (& 1 Rum) Distilleries and as with previous years we enjoyed cycling the 3 Distilleries Path to enjoy their open days with special mention to Laphroaig (even with the rain and midges) and Ardbeg. Aside from the distilleries the walk to Kilnaughton Beach and Carraig Fhada made for a relaxing evening stroll. A'Chroit is well-equipped with spacious garden area for barbeques and handy outhouse for storing bikes etc. The arrival of a smart TV since we were last here would have been a welcome addition if the weather had not been so fantastic! We very much look forward to returning. Thanks again Kenny.

I can’t even thank Betty enough for her hospitality, the house was very comfortable and warm for the snowy period we stayed. Port Ellen is wonderful and welcoming, and you feel like you are part of the community. (At least at the time of year when we stayed) It was easy to get out and about, plus it is just down the block from the ferry terminal.

You do feel like you are staying at a family home out on the island.

We really felt at home, and we recommend this rental to anyone who wants to visit the island. We’ll be back there as soon as possible.

Highly recommended accommodation with a great location in Port Ellen for exploring what Islay has to offer especially the distillers along the south coast of the island. Having spent two holidays here for the Feis weeks in 2016 & 2017 we would happily return. Many thanks to Kenneth and Betty for providing an excellent place to stay.

Wonderful welcome from Betty, who had bought a few necessities so we didn’t have to rush out to the shops. Cottage ideally placed in center of village – near shops, pubs and bus stop. Well stocked kitchen with everything you could want. Lots of space and very homely. Great garden with starlings nesting in the wall.
Everything you could need – hope to return!
